Detroit Police Chief James Craig, expected to announce his retirement Monday and his plan to run as a Republican gubernatorial candidate in 2022, told Fox News Saturday "oh yes, I'm excited" about the future.

Appearing on "Justice with Judge Jeanine," Craig didn't talk about political plans, but simply smiled and mentioned his excitement after host Jeanine Pirro said:

"Chief James Craig, I know that there are bigger things in your future, there's no question, because you have the gift of all of the City of Detroit not suffering what the other big cities are." [Video below]

Pirro's comment was in reference to Detroit experiencing minimal violence and destruction during the "Black Lives Matter" demonstrations.

Last September, President Trump praised Craig for his handling of the demonstrations:

"You have a great police chief. I watch him, I really like him a lot. I think he’s terrific. I think he’s just an incredible representative, too. He speaks so well about a very important subject, which is crime and the rioting and all the things you see in certain cities."

How can you go wrong when you have Trump and Judge Pirro in your corner?
