It looks like the Detroit Tigers may need to find a new home to broadcast its games.
Financially ailing Diamond Sports, which owns Bally Sports Detroit, indicated Wednesday in its Chapter 11 bankruptcy case in the Southern District of Texas that it plans to stop televising all but the Atlanta Braves games. The other 11 MLB teams, including the Tigers, will need to renegotiate new contracts with Diamond or find another option, The Athletic writes.
The court ultimately has to approve Diamond's plan. Chapter 11 provides protection from creditors while the company reorganizes so it can pay off debts and remain in business.
MLB’s representatives said they were “sandbagged” by this news and were not prepared to respond fully, The Athletic reports.
