A 55-year-old man was fatally shot early Sunday morning on Detroit's west side a day before he was scheduled to testify in court against a man who had shot and wounded him last year, WXYZ reports.
The family and police tell the station that they believe Webster Cooper was shot around 12:25 a.m. on Stansbury Avenune near W. McNichols while arriving home from work. Cooper was a father and a grandfather.
Cooper planned to testify against a man charged with shooting and wounding him last Oct. 18 in the parking lot of Lou's Deli on W. McNichols.
His sister tells WXYZ that her brother accidentally brushed against the man while walking into the deli. She said the man took offense, waited for Cooper to come outside and allegedly shot and wounded him.
"It was like two people passing through a doorway, maybe a little brushing up against one another," she said.
She said her brother was nervous about testifying.
