Gary Lansky, 73, of Detroit, has been charged with slashing a 7-year-old girl's throat with a knife at a park on Detroit's west side. She received stitches and is doing OK.
The incident happened on Tuesday around 3:45 p.m. at Ryan Park in the 5800 block of Greenview Avenue near Ford Road and the Southfield Freeway. The girl was with her 73-year-old girlfriend.
Saida Mashrah,7, tells Fox 2:
"A guy came up to me. He pulled my face up and then in the other hand was a knife. He just came out of nowhere and slid the knife on me."
She tells the station that she kicked the man and ran to her home nearby to show her mother. She said he slashed her throat with a pocket knife and tried to puncture her stomach as well.
Lansky was arrested later that day, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said. He faces charges of assault with intent to murder and felonious assault.
The victim is of Arabic descent. But Maria Miller, a spokeperson for the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office tells the Detroit Free Press: "At this time, we have no evidence that supports that this was a hate crime."
