Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan has yet to actively fundraise for re-election, a good indication that he won't be running in 2025 for a fourth term.
"The money is the lifeline of all campaigns and Duggan is a master of raising money," said political commentator Adolph Mongo, host of the podcast "Detroit in Black and White. "If he's not raising money he has his sights on another office, that being the governor. And the window is closing on that, so he has to make a decision. It looks like he's going to run for governor. That's the worst kept secret in the state."
Duggan is expected to announce his intentions in November after the election.
Meanwhile, Louis Aguilar of the Detroit News reports:
The records, posted by the Wayne County Clerk's Office, show Detroit City Council President Mary Sheffield and former City Council President Saunteel Jenkins both have raised more than $100,000 for their exploratory committees. Sheffield, who formed her committee last year, has over $355,000 in cash on hand.
