On a recent Saturday, on a perfect sunny Fall afternoon, as college football games aired on the TV, Deadine Detroit spoke to Black voters at the Dexter Barber Shop on Puritan in northwest Detroit.
Reporter Allan Lengel spoke to barbers, customers and two women who were next door and agreed to be interviewed at the shop. They talked about the Donald Trump-Kamala Harris debate, the character of the candidates and the issues. Some customers declined to be interviewed.
Those interviewed include: Barbershop owner Thomas Fentress, 87, of Detroit who has owned the shop on Puritan for 50 years; Veteran Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) employee Kenny Nichols, 61 of Detroit; barber Gerald Gaddy Jr., 60, of Detroit; caterer Lynn Green, 69, of Southfield; Tracy Adams, 51, of Detroit; and barber William Sean Askew, 45, of Detroit.
The video was produced and edited by Myron Watkins.
