Michigan native Kid Rock says he plans to bring comedian Bill Maher, a critic of Donald Trump,  as a dinner guest to the White House to speak with the president in an attempt to help “unite” the country, The Huffington Post reports.

“I’m actually going to try and unite this country, and I’m starting at the end of the month. I’m taking Bill Maher to the White House for dinner—this guy who has done nothing but talk smack about the president since day one,” Kid Rock, aka Robert Ritchie, said Saturday on an episode of The Glenn Beck Podcast.

Kid Rock, 54, a close friend of Trump, recently appeared on HBO's "Real Time With Bill Maher."

“I was doing [Maher’s] podcast, and I said, ‘If I could hook you guys up...’ And trust me, there are a lot more people deserving of that table for dinner, so it’s a big deal for me to bring [Maher] there and to even have the president be like, ‘Yeah, do it, let’s do it,’” Rock told Beck. “I go, ‘Man, what would it say to this country?’”

Rock continued, “Let’s start at the top with two very public figures—a television comedian and the president of the free world—and we can just break bread, have some laughs, take a picture, and be like, ‘Hey, you know, we don’t agree on everything, but we got along.’”

He told Beck that Maher is “actually more reasonable than a lot of people on the right would think.”

Maher has been known to take swipes at Trump but has also criticized liberals for what he considers being too woke and sensitive.

These days, Kid Rock lives in the Nashville area and in recent years seems to have cut some ties to Detroit.

About six years ago, he sold his mansion on the Detroit River.

In 2019, he "voluntarily" decided not to renew his lease for his restaurant, "Kid Rock’s Made in Detroit," at Little Caesars Arena. The announcement of the restaurant’s closure was made by Ilitch Holdings shortly after a video circulated showing Kid Rock on stage at his Nashville restaurant, delivering a drunken rant in which he disparaged Oprah Winfrey, Joy Behar of The View, and Kathie Lee Gifford.
