Former U.S. Rep. Dave Trott
Former Republican Michigan U.S. Rep. Dave Trott may run for Congress again—this time as an Independent or Democrat, the Detroit News reports.
The former foreclosure attorney is eyeing the 11th Congressional District seat, currently held by Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens, who has announced she is running for Senate.
"I'm not sure who all is looking at Michigan 11, but I find it increasingly difficult to just sit back and watch what's happening to our country," he said, according to The News. "So it certainly has given me some things to think about."
"I'm not a MAGA believer, and I think Donald Trump is a singular threat to our democracy," Trott said. "I think he's just unfit to be president. I said that back in 2019; I believe it's even more true today."
Trott left Congress in 2019.
The News reports that he splits his time between Florida and Michigan, where he and a partner still own 16 newspapers, commercial real estate properties, and ATA National, a large national title insurance company, where he serves as chairman.
