Dwayne Noah Alexander-Perdue, 17, of Detroit, faces charges in the carjacking of a 47-year-old woman who was providing food to dogs, the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said Wednesday.

“The victim in this case was providing an all-too-necessary service that is sorely needed in the City of Detroit. The defendant’s alleged actions in this case were the opposite of altruistic — they were predatory, violent, unacceptable, and criminal,” Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in a statement.

The incident occurred on May 7 around 3:30 p.m. in the 17400 block of Charest on Detroit's east side.

Authorities allege that Alexander-Perdue approached the dog rescuer in the backyard, where she was providing food to dogs, and produced a handgun. He stole her car keys and drove off in her vehicle.

An investigation by the Detroit Police led to his arrest later that day.

He faces charges of armed robbery, carjacking, unlawfully driving away an automobile, receiving and concealing a stolen motor vehicle, resisting and obstructing a police officer, carrying a concealed weapon, and three counts of felony firearm.

“The victim in this case was providing an all-too-necessary service that is sorely needed in the City of Detroit. The defendant’s alleged actions in this case were the opposite of altruistic — they were predatory, violent, unacceptable, and criminal,” said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday morning in Detroit’s 36th District Court.
