Vance Boelter, the man suspected of shooting two Democratic Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses on Saturday, had a list of other politicians, including some from Michigan.
The Detroit Free Press and Detroit News report that the names appeared to include Michigan Democrats: U.S. Reps. Debbie Dingell, Rashida Tlaib, Hillary Scholten, Haley Stevens, Shri Thanedar; Sen. Elissa Slotkin and Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson. It’s unclear what, if anything, the suspected killer intended to do to them.
“We are in coordination with our federal partners and our fusion centers in those states to coordinate with local law enforcement and the FBI in those states … to be able to provide that information and notify those individuals,” said Drew Evans, superintendent of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, on Sunday after the arrest, according to the Free Press.
An FBI affidavit filed Sunday in Minnesota federal court noted that Boelter “made lists containing home addresses of many Minnesota public officials, mostly or all Democrats.”
Boelter was arrested Sunday after he fatally shot Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, and shot and wounded state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette.
The FBI affidavit stated that Boelter “embarked on a planned campaign of stalking and violence, designed to inflict fear, injure, and kill members of the Minnesota state legislature and their families.”
