There’s been a tradition in Detroit and elsewhere in which some folks celebrate the start of the New Year at midnight by firing off a gun.
The advice from Michigan State Police: Don’t
"I know this sounds like something I shouldn’t have to say, but… Don’t shoot guns in the air tonight to welcome the new year," the agency said in a statement on X.
"The old adage of what goes up must come down always comes true. You can ring in the new year with bells, bang some pots and pans or just yell if you need to. Make new years safe for everyone."
